John Burke's Animals   Fluffies and not-so-fluffies!

We had a look around Blackpool Zoo on Easter Monday.

It wasn't the sunniest of days but that probably helped the photos!

I like more natural photos but sometimes it's impossible not to get the background.

The lions are from a previous visit to Chester - the Blackpool lion was asleep!.

The smallest monkey in the world - carrying an even smaller youngster!

Right: what big eyes you have Grandma...

I used to spend hours taking shots of Vicky the orang utan's mother Azimat for magazines (see below).

Vicky and her daughters are now proving a bit hit with visitors.

My most lucrative sale was of four shots of a yawning Azimat.

She magazine published these full page and a week later I received a phone call from the London office of America's National Enquirer.

The National Enquirer page is shown left and they paid enough to pay for all my zoo visits from then on!

Watching these animals you can't help but be struck by their obvious intelligence and moved by their close bonding.
The peacock was showing his plumage to scare off a couple of goats who were grazing near him.

The right hand pic is of a white pelican.
