John Burke's Hastings, August 1999
Canterbury
Tuesday 3 August 1999

After the cathedral, the city of Canterbury beckoned an impatient finger. Somewhere in the maze of streets a comics shop was waiting to tempt me...

The town with the medieval streets and glimpses of the cathedral reminded me of York.

We stopped for a refuel in a cafe called The Counting House on Castle Street. I didn't take a photo of it I'm afraid but if you around Canterbury I can recommend you ask for a "coffee made with milk"!
Mind you, there are plenty of inns, street cafes and pavement cafes in the city. If you want to play continental and sit outside, all you need is day when it's not raining!
As for me... Above: I'm happy enough!!!

We returned to Hastings to eat and I left the others playing a game of putting and went to do this sketch of the East Cliff Furnicular Railway.

Click the sketch for a closer look!

I don't do a lot of sketching and I don't pretend to be all that good really - mainly it's only on holiday that I do any. And then it will only be the odd one or two. You've already seen the oddest one - this wasn't all that bad for me ha ha!
