The Bispham Buskers
(I'll apologise now - it'll save time later...)

I've played guitar since I was 12 and keyboards almost as long. The groups I've appeared in are shown below but I can also perform solo, although such appearances are rare!

Most Creeping Bentgrass gigs will include at least one solo spot though! I'm shown here at Goosnargh Social Club and Myerscough Stumble Inn.

The album CD is available at 8.00 GBP + 1.00 GBP postage UK, or 2.50 GBP Overseas.

Please note - payment must be made in pounds sterling.

For overseas buyers this may mean you pay a little more due to your own bank's exchange charges.

Cheques (and checks!) should be made payable to J Burke. email me for address details etc.

Creeping Bentgrass

Creeping Bentgrass started at Myerscough College Christmas 2000. Bob Snape, Helen Fenton and I had played mandolin, violin and guitar for Christmas carols and were joined by David Lancaster who sang a couple of songs.

With Helen we played Kendal Windows on Art in 2000 but when we decided to keep on she found it increasingly difficult to find time for rehearsals.

Since then we have played as a trio, with 60s, rock and roll, country and folk giving a variety of styles.

See the Creeping Bentgrass pages!

The Bispham Buskers

I have a number of instruments - too many according to my wife! A Yamaha PSR630 and Korg PA50 keyboards and six guitars - electric, accoustic steel strung and spanish nylon strung.

The whole family gathered at fairly frequent intervals in the 1990s to have a singing and recording session to the keyboard, singing old comic songs such as "When Father Papered the Parlour".

CDs are available at extortionate cost and cassettes at merely expensive! The out-takes are even better and therefore, forget it - you couldn't afford them!

Some comments received so far from recipients of Bispham Buskers tapes and CDs:

"That horrendous accent..." - Marlene, South Africa (now Canada)
"Oh this is hilarious! Now you're trying to do By The Rivers of Babylon..." - Evy, Canada
"On Dancing In The Dark I expected to hear chairs falling over..." - Doug, America
"I just wanted to take off my underwear and throw them at you all..." - Susan, America

You know... I've wondered about that last comment...!

Pic of Spiral Spiral

In the early 1970s I played lead and 12-string guitar and sang in a folk-rock group called Spiral.

We played several gigs in the Manchester and Oldham areas. The group's other members at the time were Ian Rostron, John Briggs, and Gillian Lovett.

Johnny Briggs, Ian Rostron, John Burke Here we are in 1973 topping the bill at a school concert. None of us were at the school, we were invited to play by a young lady of my acquaintance...

Margaret, if you ever read this, remember the finale of Monster Mash??? Now that'll set people wondering! All perfectly innocent folks!

Even earlier than Spiral was a small folk-based group sometimes known as Anacreon and other times simply as "Heywood Senior High School Folk Group"!

Barry Lord, Bill Lloyd (pictured with me - I'm on the right and no it's not a wig!) and several girls from lower forms at times played or sang with the group. In the pics featured here, Barry and I are on the left and right with Bill Lloyd on stage in Rochdale.
